This is a fascinating piece about Dr. BJ Miller (above), a university student who became a triple amputee after an accident, then went on to become a palliative pain doctor running a hospice in San Francisco.
I was struck by this quote about what he's learned since acquiring disability: "It's not what you see, but how you see it."
I've written Dr. Miller to ask if he'd share his insights with BLOOM. Louise

Hi louise: I was fascinated by this story and all that this Dr (BJ) Miller has faced in his lifes journey. I think his ability to get "intimate" with those who are in the palliative stages is an extraordinary skill and art that those who must meet him are blessed to experience.
Even though he may have felt like a poster boy -his story is beyond inspiring. You (Louise) and Dr Miller made my day.
Holy Cow! Just when I didn't think I could be any more amazed, I was!...and dealing with his sister's death on top of EVERYTHING else. This man is too amazing for words.
What a remarkable man and story. Thank you for sharing his light with us. I posted it on Facebook and look forward to him appearing here! I wonder what his view of children with disabilities might be!
