If mothers do more of it, part of that may be because it's so normalized - articles and interviews focus so heavily on mothers that people assume that's how it works. Just like with girls and "non-traditional" careers, "if they can see it, they can be it". Also, it provides additional input. The other thing that was glaringly missing from this was the fact that appointments are mainly scheduled during regular working hours and lots of parents (mothers AND fathers) work. If your child has multiple appointments but you need to work to pay for support for the child, juggling work and appointments becomes a HUGE challenge.MEMacnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-447392662850613354.post-69004819262728721122017-01-11T14:47:54.437-05:002017-01-11T14:47:54.437-05:00This is true for paediatric appointments for all s...This is true for paediatric appointments for all special needs children. I work in the NHS and am constantly asking that we give an extra appointment to parents of children who haven't come to their last appointment as we don't know the reasons behind the non appearance. Until we get into the habit of chasing non attenders to see if they want to rebook, there will always be a stigma attached to special needs parents, especially single ones (I am both so can see the issues from both sides). In my specialty we do contact non attenders but in the umbrella service they don't, and we are being encouraged to stop doing it.
