In particular, I would like to see the money unbundled from the agencies and direct funding given to families who are able to plan and develop solutions for their families. We need to encourage innovative, out-of-the-box solutions that connect with other community members and solutions that are out there, but never get applied to our community. Municipal housing solutions are being developed that could be applied to us, like rent supplements, Section 37 funds and other newer solutions. Let's at least aim for mandatory percentage of accessible units , in housing stock that receives government funds. Also, let's stop thinking of solutions in a 'welfare mindset' where we are only offered options that continue our poverty and marginalization. We need to also seek solutions to the supportive staff -side of the housing equation . It is not just a roof over our heads but the supportive staff and arrangements that will make or break a solution. Hopefully, the broader community of parents will be actively consulted as well as other resource people in the broader community with ideas that could apply to us. We need to break down the silos of service that have existed for too long and have often prevented cross-fertilization of ideas and solutions.<br />Brenda Parris,Parent and Advocate Brenda Parrisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-447392662850613354.post-53530546693584753352014-11-13T14:22:22.940-05:002014-11-13T14:22:22.940-05:00Hi Folks
