That's such a great idea about picking your date and sending to your friends -- that's a perfect example of Gretchen's idea of external accountability. And I love all the different things you've done.

It is HARD to make these things happen but so worth it as you found at Christmas. Keep us posted on your successes so we can all benefit from your experience.BLOOM - Parenting Kids With Disabilitieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06901482901008135659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-447392662850613354.post-87765294773827334902015-05-01T17:32:03.196-04:002015-05-01T17:32:03.196-04:00When I read the headline, I rolled my eyes and tho...When I read the headline, I rolled my eyes and thought "Great, one more thing to be worried about!" It was refreshing for the article to echo my thoughts part-way through and at least try to provide some advice on how to bring about a change.

As I whiz through my days dealing with a child with ASD and her sister with ADHD, I know I should take time for myself. At Christmas, the kids were at camp for a couple of days and despite the fact I had a cold, I took the time to get out and do things for myself during the day. After meeting a friend for lunch downtown, and realizing how good I felt, despite the miserable cold, I made a commitment to get out a minimum of once a month.

In order to help me stick to it, I immediately put it on my calendar and sent out an e-mail to all of the women in my life that I don't see enough. Everyone's schedules are so hectic, that planning get togethers often takes weeks. Now, everyone has advance notice and, out of such a large group, there's always someone available to come out.

So far, we've gone to see improv comedy, seen a film at the TIFF Lightbox and dined in the complete darkness at O.Noir. This weekend we're going to a workshop to create our own abstract painting. It's a good start, next I'll tackle getting more activeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
