Hi, Mia! I am so happy...This is a message to Mia:

Hi, Mia! I am so happy that you got to meet a butterfly! I have been raising Giant Swallowtails for a few years. I find the tiny yellow eggs on the leaves of my lime tree. Citrus trees like lime, lemon, and orange are their "host plants". They don't like apple or plum trees.

Last week I brought in two leaves with one egg on each one. One baby caterpillar just hatched and I named it Gonzo. Even though it's tiny I know it's doing well because the lime leaves in the cage are nibbled on and I see lots of droppings.

My family always called caterpillars "caterpiggles" which my parents got from an old comic strip called Pogo who was a 'possum! One time my dad called in a question to a local TV show that had bug experts on it. He accidently asked, "What do I do about all the caterpiggles that eating my trees?"

The eggs' mother was a Giant Swallowtail named Gigi that I raised last month. I got to watch her laying the eggs last weekend.

I liked your story. You look like you are a very smart girl! I hope you are feeling well.

JanAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11666451302716950921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-447392662850613354.post-20160440820735975072014-08-08T14:54:01.822-04:002014-08-08T14:54:01.822-04:00What a wonderful program! We have fallen in love with her through her Mom and pray for her daily.
